Images of destruction from the war zone in Ukraine are currently reaching us on a daily basis. Several million people have already left the country and arrived in Germany, among other places. Refugees are being offered safe accommodation in Porta Westfalica and Bünde as well and the Brueder Schlau Group is providing support in the preparation of these emergency shelters.
In Porta Westfalica, where the Brueder Schlau Group’s headquarters are located, emergency accommodation is being set up in the previously vacant Porta School. 50 mattresses, as well as bedding, linens, fitted sheets, several hundred towels, curtains and floor coverings were provided for the facility. “The impressions we are receiving from Ukraine are truly frightening and have caused us considerable dismay. It is important to us the we provide support to the people in this incredibly difficult situation and the city in building such an important shelter. For us, it is a way of offering help quickly and tangibly – in addition to publishing employment offers on a job portal for refugees,” said Martin Damm, Brueder Schlau Group’s Human Resources Manager.
The first refugees from Ukraine have already arrived in Porta Westfalica, and soon more will follow. “The influx is significant and we are preparing everything under intense pressure to create the best possible conditions and ensure the protection of the people,” emphasised Thorsten Bülte from the city of Porta Westfalica, who is particularly grateful for support such as that provided by the Brueder Schlau Group. “We were really pleased with the donations and the fast and flexible processing. And it was all free of charge – a really wonderful thing.”
Numerous Ukrainian refugees have arrived in the city of Bünde as well. About half of them are accommodated in council apartments. The Brueder Schlau Group also furnished them with 50 mattresses, 250 bed linens and fitted sheets each, 100 bedding items, and about 1,000 towels. “Such a great help, as these articles are not easy to come by at the moment. On behalf of the city, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for their assistance,” Bünde Mayor Susanne Rutenkröger said.
